Your first appointment with the chiropractor will include a thorough case history, detailed physical examination which includes a thorough examination of the spine. You will be advised if further tests are required, or referral to another health care practitioner would best suit your case.
Thorough Case History
A thorough case history will include questions regarding your main health complaint, as well as a detailed look into your past medical history, occupational hazzards, exercise and dietary habits, accidents or injuries, as well as any other health complaints you may have.
Physical Examination
The physical examination may include:
Observation of posture, joint mobility, range of motion and gait analysis.
Palpation of soft tissue, muscles, and joint movement.
Relevant neurological and orthopaedic tests.
Treatment
Your chiropractor will detail a treatment plan specific to your needs. The primary treatment involves chiropractic adjustment (manipulation) of the spine and/or other joints, as well as soft tissue therapies and other techniques such as ice, heat, massage and exercise to enhance results.
While Chiropractors are drug free healing therapists for neuro muscular skeletal complaints, your doctor of Chiropractic is also trained to compliment the work of other medical specialists, and will recommend consultation with the appropriate medical specialist if necessary and in the best interest of the patient.
